Spoon carving workshop
Five members from our shed enjoyed an evening of spoon carving led by Marcus Keaveney - AKA The Barefoot Woodcarver.
We started with a short mindfulness exercise to calm down the excitement then got on with carving. Marcus provided the tools, materials and expert tuition to get from a small blank of fresh wood to a small spoon.
Although the straight and curved knives were razor sharp all went well, with Marcus showing us safe and effective cutting techniques.
We had enough individual and group instruction to let us all make good progress while keeping up our usual level of chat. The pictures show the group involved and the finished products, only needing to dry out fully and be sanded.
It was a really enjoyable and rewarding session, giving us the skill to safely create more useful items or pieces of art. Marcus is willing to teach further sessions if there is more demand so if this interests you add your name to the notice board.
